GERALD SEKOTO 1913 – 1993 Gerald was born on 09/12/1913 at Botshabelo Mission near in Mpumulanga. After school he studied to be a teacher and spent four years teaching at a local school. In 1938 he left to stay with relatives in Sophiatown and start painting fulltime, his paintings were of scenes from within the community and done in bold colours. In 1947 he fulfilled a lifetime dream and moved to the centre of the artwork, Paris. In the 1970’s his work took on a more political nature.” He died in Paris in 1993.
